How to make traveling to Bali with your kids easy !
Travelling is one of the best ways of educating our kids, and we all love going on holiday as a family. Right? Perhaps this is not always the case. Maybe the journey there is stressful and can be a little daunting to think about during the weeks leading up to your trip. Do not worry. It can be a little tough, but here are some tips to make sure you enjoy your time with your little ones and make the travelling part less of a nightmare! Becoming a parent should not mean that you have to stop travelling, and travelling can be hugely beneficial for your child's development too. As long as we prepare, we can minimize any kind of stressful situation that may arise. 1. Snacks It might seem simple, but you really shouldn't underestimate the importance of having enough good healthy food to snack on. Do not rely on airport supplies, be prepared beforehand, and pack one tub of snacks for each child (tip: clearly mark the tubs or use different coloured ones to prevent any disagreements). Eating and drinking enough will put your child in better spirits overall, and will also serve as a pleasant distraction and time-killer! Depending on their age, provide milk, juice or gummy sweets for taking off and landing to ease any ear discomfort if on a plane. 2. Activities I have always found that giving kids something to get stuck into is a lot more effective than just giving them comforting toys. Whether you're on a train or a plane, a set of pens and paper, small puzzles (preferably without lots of little pieces!), books (visual or for reading, depending on age) and even some fun games on a tablet as a back-up! Again, it is a good idea to have a different colour activity bag clearly marked for each child, just to save time and hassle and prevent any arguments. Keep it simple. 3. Consider their normal routine If you know that they want not be sleeping for a long time, let them sleep a lot longer the day/night before to account for this. If you know they usually lose their appetite when travelling, make sure they eat a little more the day/night before, too. If they usually sleep well on transport, then maybe skip the nap the day before to allow them to sleep through the journey. 4. Make it fun! It is not the easiest thing to notice or to accept, but your child will always become more agitated and stressed if they sense that you are apprehensive about something. Keep everything lighthearted and positive by turning it into a game! A week or so before your trip, play an 'aeroplane' game with them. You can both give each other points for things like talking quietly, sitting still, playing a game or colouring quietly, not kicking the seat in front (add in whatever you know they usually struggle with!). You can even award a prize if they do really well maybe a special toy or puzzle for the trip! 5. Stop caring so much about what others think Maybe easier said that done, but it's important that you try. There are two reasons for this. The first reason, you will never be able to completely control what you child does or says and that's okay! It's all a learning process. If others are going to judge you for this when it's clear that you are doing your best then that is their problem and not yours. Secondly, if you are a little more flustered or stressed because you are worried about others tutting and shaking their heads at your noisy child then said noisy child will only become noisier. Instead, focus your energy on being calm, providing fun distractions and talking about how the plane or train works, what you are going to do on your holiday etc.
Lastly, just keep doing it. Even if you've had a bad experience, it will only become easier as both you and your child become more used to the situation and you both work together to figure out what works. Travel can be a huge part of a child's life and can help them learn some extremely valuable lessons along the way. It is a great experience to give your child.
